I'm Jaz, a 23 year old Wildlife Conservation student, English Lit graduate and hobbyist animal photographer living in Bristol. Here I share news, opinions and photography revolving around nature.

Hedgehogs are in danger tonight!⚠️ Over the last few months I’ve had the chance to meet, learn about and try to help these amazing but vulnerable creatures. I met and photographed the little guy pictured at the British Wildlife Centre, was lucky enough to visit Prickles Hedgehog Rescue and learn about their amazing mission and am also working with the Wildlife Team at @thecommunityfarm to build safe houses for hibernation and nesting. But tonight a huge number of hedgehogs will perish in bonfires, which to them look like purpose-built palaces! Please either refrain from lighting a bonfire tonight or at the very least thoroughly check and move it first. And while I’m here...fireworks may be beautiful and exciting but they’re a literal nightmare for wildlife (and pets too!) so please think about avoiding those as well! #bangoutoforder 🦔🎇🎆

Harvest mice usually have two or three litters a year in the wild, between late May and October, but sometimes even as late December if the weather is mild. The majority of litters are born in August and comprise of around six young, which are born blind and hairless but grow rapidly and begin to venture outside of their nest by the 11th day. They are left to survive on their own after about 16 days, but will continue to use their nest even after abandonment. Harvest mice are listed as a BAP (Biodiversity Action Plan) Species. 🐭🍁❄️

Here are some more snaps of Flo as she really is super photogenic. Red foxes are social animals, living in family groups of a breeding pair, together with cubs in the spring, and sometimes other subordinate juveniles and adults. The latter are usually young born the previous year and help with the rearing of cubs, feeding, grooming and playing with them. Each group occupies a territory, which is marked with urine and scats. Dens - called ‘earths’ - may be dug in banks or make use of disused or occupied badger setts or old rabbit burrows. In urban areas, favoured sites for dens are under buildings or sheds, and in overgrown gardens and cemeteries. 🦊🐾🦡
